A nice afternoon drive produced these images… I need to ride my motorcycle there.
Sorry it’s been a while since I have blogged… it’s been busy.
It has been a few weeks since I have had a chance to blog, so I will take this chance to do so.
I like food. I’m a guy, so inherently I like sandwiches. Here is a list of sandwiches I like, in no particular order.
Peanut butter and jelly(with the pb&j mixed before being applied to the bread).
Reuben sandwich. Meat. Cheese. Kraut. Dressing. Genius.
BLT. How can you go wrong with anything bacon?
Sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwich I had that one time from a catering truck at the port of L.A.
The simple turkey club.
Philly cheese steak.
Grilled cheese. With the yellow ‘Merican cheeze.
Pastrami on rye.
The hot ham and swiss from Hardee’s. Not a paid endorsement.
Microwave chicken nugget sandwich on white bread that my grandma made when I was a kid.
That is all for now.
As I lay here on my bed flipping through the channels on the TV, One of my favorite movies shows up on the channel guide. No, not Top Gun, but 1994’s PCU. This is on the short list of movies that you are required, by manlihood, to watch if it is on the air and you happen to flip across it.
I remember the first time I saw PCU: My freshman year at Troy
State University. I had just moved into Alumni Hall, the awesome freshman housing run down shack of a dormitory. Comedy Central was playing it nightly as part of their back to school celebration. Perfect timing– my first time away from home, at college, with this movie to guide my path. Needless to say, this movie isn’t the best thing to show a bunch of freshmen during the first week of college, right up there with Revenge of the Nerds and Animal House. Fortunately I was able to discern fiction from reality, much as I am able to now (most of the time).
Back to the subject at hand: The Top Gun rule
There is a running joke between my roommate and I. Every time Top Gun on shows up on the TV channel guide, is is compulsory to switch to that channel and watch it, usually making comments about the homoeroticity of the volleyball scene(and the whole movie).
Top Gun, PCU, any other Mel Brooks film, Super Troopers, The Big Lebowski, etc. Everyone’s personal list is different– some movies are guilty pleasures, almost something you might be embarrassed to admit to enjoying. One of my personal favorites, which falls under the guilty pleasure category is Wierd Al Yancovich’s UHF. Which is one of the best movies ever.
There are other titles, but this is a dynamic rule that needs prompting from the channel guide… Usually one of us will see something that cues a sub-conscious and/or primal need to feed our brains with a cheesy and/or awesome movie from the 80’s or 90’s. I have noticed a pattern, however, that most of the movies that are included in this rule are from one of the two aforementioned decades. At this point it should be safe to say that newer movies could be added to the queue, considering that one of the movies I listed (Super Troopers) is from 2001.
So, as you find yourself flipping through channels and Top Gun just happens to be on, let it mellow… it’s not that bad a movie…
I visited Troy for the first time in about 10 years over the weekend. The campus has changed drastically. While I was there, I had some time to pop off a few pictures. Enjoy!
Since fall is starting to come around, pumpkin weather is starting to roll in. I had the opportunity to go with some of my friends to the pumpkin farm.
The cool part –other than hanging out with great friends– is that I found some new roads to ride my motorcycle on, and it’s not that far form my house.
The bad part is that there is absolutely no cell phone service… just goes to show how hard it is to go “Off the grid” for even a few hours.

The new Apple mobile device operating system (iOS5) was released sometime yesterday, so there was a rush of about 9.7 billion users trying to update their devices. When i plugged in to iTunes, I as informed that it would take 4 hours to download and update my iPad.
There had to be a backdoor way to do this.
And there was.
I recently jailbroke and unlocked my old iPhone to use overseas. One method of jailbreaking involves restoring a device with a custom .ipsw(the file extension for iOS restores). I thought I would give that method a try… Not jailbreaking or anything, just bypassing the apple servers.
I was able to find a clean version of iOS5 for ipad on bittorrent, had it downloaded in about 15 minutes, and was able to backup my iPad, update the firmware, and start the data sync (which goes much faster with sync via wifi) much quicker than going the legit route. I was up and running in less than an hour, which is relatively quick compared to any past updates.
iMessenger is pretty cool, and I actually see myself using it more. Essentially it is free text messaging with other iOS5 users. The twitter integration and general notifications remind me of my Droid device, so that isn’t a bad thing at all.
And now I have one of the cool @me.com email addresses.
So I can be cool like all of the old MobileMe folks.
And no, I’m still not an Apple fanboy.
